As someone who spends most of her time thinking about how agent architectures make decisions, I find this premise genuinely fascinating, and genuinely complicated.
The Agent Paradox at the Core of Bond
From an AI architecture standpoint, what Bond is attempting is not trivial. Building an agent whose success metric is its own reduced usage is a direct inversion of how virtually every recommendation system in existence has been trained. Standard social platforms optimize for engagement — time on screen, clicks, return visits. Their reward functions are explicit: more is better. Bond is asking its AI to optimize for the opposite outcome, which means the agent’s definition of a “good” action is one that terminates the session.
This creates a genuinely interesting alignment problem. If the system is too effective, the platform has no users. If it’s not effective enough, it’s just another feed with a wellness coat of paint. The agent has to thread a needle between being useful enough to attract users and being self-limiting enough to fulfill its stated purpose. That’s a non-trivial objective function to specify, let alone train.

That’s a meaningfully different interaction model. Instead of a passive content feed that rewards continued scrolling, the agent is acting as a social coordinator — generating a specific, actionable output and then stepping back. The Harder Problem Nobody Is Talking About
